And finally

Last entry for today, I promise. In fact, this will probably be my last entry here at Xanga. After much thought and deliberation, I have decided I really do need to protect my family, and no longer post photos or family info publicly on the internet. Xanga is just too restricted in that I can't give access to all my friends, and so I'm leaving it behind.

I'm not going to delete my family-related entries here, though I am going to make them protected. From now on I will be keeping my blog here at livejournal. I have always preferred livejournal to xanga, but felt like I should blog here since it's where all my real life family and friends blog. At livejournal I can make my family entries "friends only", with no restriction on the number of friends I have. This means that unless you have a livejournal, or at least a userid there, you won't be able to see photos and read family updates anymore. I know this isn't friendly to everyone, and means I will probably lose a few readers, maybe even all of you. But I feel it's what's necessary for us at this point in time.

I'd love it if you'd all sign up for a livejournal (perhaps I will gradually win you over from the dark side, haha), or at least a userid, so I can still keep you updated. But I know that not everybody will be up for that, and so to those of you who aren't I apologise. I have enjoyed xanga, but I feel it's time for me to do what I believe to be right, and that is to think about my family's privacy first. I'll still be reading and commenting to everyone else, and hope that you will at least consider a livejournal userid so you can keep up with our news. And if you don't, you'll still be able to see some entries at the livejournal address, namely crafty, foody, random type posts. But for most of you who read this, they're probably the kind of entries you'd be least interested in.

Anyway, enough rambling. It's been fun. See ya.

Before C was born, I said something about not posting photos of her, and then I did anyway.  So now, I'm going back to my original idea.  All photo and family-related posts are going to be private/protected now.  In other words you have to have a xanga and be subscribed (mutually?) to be able to see them.  If you don't have a xanga and you want to see the updates you can either 1) get a xanga (don't have to blog, just have an account) or 2) email me and I will send email versions of my posts to you.  I'm not sure that any non-xanga people read this anyway, but just in case, those are your options.  Sorry to be a pain, but I've got to protect my little family.  All previous photo/family posts will now be edited to make them private too.

Edited to add: just realised I can only have 10 people on my protected list. Sadly (well, not really), I have more than 10 friends. Please ignore this post until I come up with a new solution (that doesn't involve going premium and therefore, spending money).

Quick & dirty advent calendar

Inspired by all the advent calendars I have seen lately (here, here and here) I decided to make a quick activity advent calendar for our little family. Nothing fancy to look at but hopefully we will have lots of fun during the month of December as we do lots of Christmas (and other) activities together.

advent calendar

The activities, some of which were taken from the above-mentioned calendars and some of which are my own, are as follows:
1. Play dominoes
2. Make iced chocolates
3. Go to the movies
4. Go for a walk and feed the fish at the Japanese Gardens
5. Have breakfast for dinner
6. Read a Christmas story together before bed
7. Have an indoor picnic
8. Play Jenga Xtreme
9. Finish this sentence: To me, Christmas means...
10. Go for a walk on the beach
11. Design a 2006 calendar using photos from 2005
12. Five minute massage for everyone
13. Pack a picnic dinner and eat it down at the waterfront
14. Dress up and have a family photo shoot
15. Buy a toy for a charity christmas tree
16. Make handmade gift tags for all our presents
17. Bake some Christmas cookies
18. Go bowling
19. Fold origami to decorate the christmas tree
20. Watch a christmas movie - popcorn a must!
21. Go out for ice-cream
22. Drive around and see the Christmas lights
23. Make a Christmas video
24. Make and decorate a gingerbread village
25. Enjoy your first Christmas as a family of three

Don't tell anyone in my little family what they are ahead of time though. Each day will be a new surprise.
